Hegemony


Explains how dominant ideology work. process of consent e.g. media, education, families, government.


Ideology 


 A  set of ideas/beliefs/values that give us a framework for viewing the world. E.g. Christianity-(powerful all seeing god), feminism (women are unequal  & should fight for equality) , Marxism (seeking equality for all classes re-distribution of wealth), nationalism (you believe that your country is great), capitalism (belief in wealth & competition),




Dominant Ideologies


Those values/beliefs that are shared by most people in a given society. E.g.  consumerism (a belief that having "stuff" makes us happy, evidence is advert), nuclear family ( a belief that a happy family involves a mum, dad, 2 kids etc...), gender & felinity (some of those change over time. women should be kind, empathetic, beauty (young, white, blonde).
