How is media language used in the Shelter advert? Refer to the social, political and cultural contexts in your response [15 marks]

Shelter is a registered charity that campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing in England and Scotland. The non profit organisation found by Bruce Kenrick uses, uses day-to-day speech used by peopple who are facing eviction or homelessness as the main coverline.This can make the audience feel sympathetic towards these vunerble people and increases the likelihood that they will help out.It being in the middle of the advert, in capital letters and in a big font has made it stand out and eye catching. The advertisements helps to tackle different sitation leading to losing your home, which includes, information about losing your job, your rights as a tendant and the importance of doing something about debt to avoid further escalation. All of the advert include further help for the public regarding more information about tackling the issue or for the public to donate to help these individuals lives. The main images include a big close up into the faces of the people potentially facing eviction with a facial expession who are distressed. The main colour scheme are white, black and red. The masthead is placed in the bottom left of the advertisement in a red font with a black background making it stand out, the ‘h’ is in a shape of a house which can represnt the company.

The BBC was founded in 8 October 1922 making it 96 years old.

2) Who is Lord Reith and what connection does he have with the BBC?
John Charles Walsham Reith (Lord Reith) (20 July 1889 – 16 June 1971) was a Scottish broadcasting executive.  He founded BBC an independent public service broadcasting in the United Kingdom.
 
3) When did it start broadcasting Radio 1?


 A new national radio station was launched on 30 September 1967 with the start of Radio 1.
 
4) What are the BBC’s five Public Purposes, as set out in the Royal Charter?
